Session outline
Participation in the Paralympic Games has increased dramatically in recent decades, and the resulting increase in performance has created new challenges for sports medicine and PRM. Health professionals not only need to know about the prevention and treatment of sports injuries, nutrition and training, but also be aware of the wide variety of medical problems associated with disability. The life expectancy of disabled people has also increased, and their access to primary prevention through nutrition and physical activity has become a new public health issue.
The organization of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games has raised awareness among French society and healthcare professionals of the importance of physical activity for people with disabilities. As a result, the parasport-related care offering, and the training of professionals have evolved in recent years.
